FAQ:
Q: What’s the difference between Haribo and gummy bears?
A: German gummis are better than haribo and black forest, but I don’t know who makes them. They’re always listed as ‘german gummy’ bears. Anyway, with some, fresh haribo is soft. Old haribo is hard. It’s all about texture and mouthfeel and how sweet the immediate bite is, versus having to chew on it a bit for the fruit flavor to come through.
Q: What is a hard gummy bear?
A: Hard gummy bears are pretty gross. They’re basically stale jujubes shaped like gummy bears. The hell is a hard gummy bear? Soft, definitely. Haribo Gummy Bears are the only gummy bears worth talking about. Haribo bears which apparently are pretty hard.
Q: Why is Haribo so hard to chew?
A: Old haribo is hard. It’s all about texture and mouthfeel and how sweet the immediate bite is, versus having to chew on it a bit for the fruit flavor to come through. I say the taste is more important than the texture.
Q: What do you think about Haribo candy?
A: I find Haribo’s candy rather distasteful. It’s filled with gelatine (pectin is a much better choice) and coated with too much wax, at least where I live. As for gummy bears, I find both hard and soft variants nice.
